In 2014 I saw a TV special about the last four Northern White Rhinos in the entire universe being moved from the Dvur Kralove Zoo in the Czech Republic to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya. I HAD TO SEE THEM!! Travel plans were on & off for the next three years due to events in my own life & then a travel advisory for Kenya at which point I decided it would likely never happen.
Sometime in October of 2016 I found a Japanese Brush Painting Workshop being held on November 13, 2016. I registered. It was this class that re-inspired me to make the trip a reality.
I quickly found all my previous research and was booked by December 21st, 2016.
I departed for Nairobi on March 16, 2017. By that time, only three Northern White Rhinos remained-Najin, Fatu & Sudan.
So began the journey of painting these amazing animals!
The Art:
Like most children, as soon as I could hold a pencil, crayons, anything that left a mark, I was drawing, scribbling and making "marks". And like many of us, slowly but surely did less & less until I did none. Now I am putting pencil to paper every single day.
